Sandpiper Bay is a great vacation option if you want to relax, keep your credit card tucked away and stay in the US with an option for driving. This resort is family friendly, has a great adults only area and located in Florida. Let's dive in to the fun!
If you're looking for a 5 star resort, this isn't the one for you. The accommodations are clean but basic, and around 3 star quality. There are 2 main room differences you should know:
The rooms have a gardenview (very lovely) unless otherwise stated as a Bay View (my favorite). You have a balcony or terrace, shower/tub combo, daybed and a desk. Each room also has a refrigerator, but it isn't stocked. Usually you get a couple bottles of water/day.
There are some superior rooms with a separate bedroom for the kiddos. The extra bedroom has bunk beds and a tv, so great if the kids go to bed before you.
These are great if you'd like a nicer room. The room and furnishings are newer. Your refrigerator is stocked (soft drinks and juices), and your balcony furniture is nicer. There are also deluxe family rooms with an extra bedroom. 2 twin beds and a tv.
There are just 3 stories in each building so no high rises. There is a hall and rooms to just one side, so this also helps keep down the noise around you. Each building does have elevators for your convenience.
What's Included in the Price?
Considering this property is in the US, the value is excellent.
The buffet restaurant called Marketplace is the main dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu is changed daily, so no chance of getting bored. If you have food allergies, ask the chef what is safe for you to consume. Indoor and outdoor seating. There is also an adults only area to eat in a quiet environment.
Soleil Terrace is available for late breakfasts and snacks between meals. Outdoor seating.
The Riverside is a lovely waterfront restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating open for dinner. You make reservations (no charge) on property, and there are some specialty dishes available to upgrade your meal. This is just for ages 10 and older.
Slice also serves smoothies in the bar.
All alcohol (except top shelf liquor) is available in the price. If you'd like a certain brand, just request that. You have the option to pay the upcharge if you prefer top shelf.
You have paddleboards, kayaks and hobie cats for sailing all available. Since the property is located on the river, the water is much calmer for watersports. You may also spot dolphins while enjoying your water time.
Since this resort is located on Port Saint Lucie river, there is a nice man made beach for you to enjoy. Lots of great sand, comfortable loungers and trees for shade.
There are several tennis courts as a great option to stay active. If you'd like to improve your game, there are beginner, intermediate and advanced lessons available each day (again no charge). The group size is limited with an expert so you can have some great teacher/student learning time. There are usually matches if you'd like to make some new friends. Equipment is included.
This is a unique attraction for resorts. You can learn how to conquer the trapeze with the circus GO experts. They will walk you through the steps and will start you at the very beginning. You can progress to being caught by a circus GO if you want to expand your horizons. You wear a harness and have a safety net to catch you.
There are a variety of spin, Zumba, yoga and bootcamp classes to keep you fit during all the chocolate bread. Oh yeah, we haven't mentioned that yet. They are famous for their freshly made chocolate bread. French people don't play when it comes to bread :).
The GO team puts on a great show each night. There are usually a couple circus shows, and those are my favorite. Each show is family friendly, so feel free to bring the little ones.
There are 4 different pools on property. You have the kids' splash pad, main pool, lap pool and adults only pool.
Speaking of the GO team, these are special staff members. They are from around the world and will interact with you throughout the week. The GO team really makes Club Med stand out from the other resort brands. They may even ask to join you for a meal - feel free to say no if you prefer.
Activities Available for Extra Cost
If you'd like to enhance your vacation, there are some extra options.
This L'Occitane Spa is waiting to get you fully into relaxation mode. Pick from many options when you arrive - nails, massages, body scrubs and so much more. The prices are very affordable, especially the convenience of being on property. 60 minute massage is around $130.
Jetski and Waterski
These are available during the summer for ages 16+.
There is a golf course on property, so play as much as you like. A round of golf is between $20 and $30 (varies based on tee time), and you can rent Nike clubs for around $30. Golf carts are available to rent as well.
Adults Only Area
There is a great pool, hot tub, cabana area to give you a relaxing spot on the resort. This adults only spot gives you a relaxing look over the bay. You also have a bar located there for convenience.
Fun for the Kiddos
Club Med is well known for their kids' programs and their engaging interaction. Kids are divided into different age groups to keep activities appropriate. Ages 4+ is included in your stay, so they can go for just part or all of the time.
Baby club is also an option from 4 months old to 3 years if you'd like a rest from the itty bitties. Cost is $90/day/child. Since the ratio of kids to staff is much lower for this age, spots may fill up if you wait to make reservations when you're on property. If you reserve ahead of time, you make a reservation for all your vacation days. Otherwise, you can reserve just a couple days when you check in.
Hours are 9-5 daily - closed one day/week.
The activities range from outdoor play time, arts and crafts, time at the trapeze, learning to bake bread and so much more. They put emphasis on people interaction over technology interaction.
If your kids plan to visit the club, you can pack them a bag with swimsuit, hat, sunscreen and anything else they need for time away from you.
A few other things to know before you go
There are self service washing/drying machines available in each building. Take some coins for the machines.
If you drive, parking is free. You can also drive to the ocean less than 10 minutes away. There is a Dollar Tree close by if you want to buy some beach toys for the kids.
Wifi is free, but you can also upgrade to premium if you need faster speed. The premium rate is $40 for the week, and this covers up to 4 devices. This is the best option if you want to facetime or be on social media a fair amount.
Download the Club Med app before you go. You can access the daily schedule and see the theme nights for packing. You aren't required to participate in theme nights, but it can be lots of fun for the family.
During covid-19 days, Club Med is taking extra measures to keep you safe. Some of these include keeping the maximum occupancy to 65%, moving more dining and all entertainment to outside, more sanitizer around the resort, hourly handwashing for kids' club, staff members wearing masks, and so much more. Combine with a Disney Trip
Adding some resort days after Disney or Universal Studios is a great way to relax after some busy walking days. Let the kids go to the club and have some adult only relaxing time. Orlando is just a 2 hour drive away, so it's a great option to consider.
So what does this cost?
If you went October 3-8th for a 5 night getaway, 2 adults at the refundable rate costs $1,771 total for a superior room. Deluxe room is just an extra $327 total.
Same dates, 2 adults and kids ages 8 and 10 would be $1,831.66 thanks to a flash sale. That's a superior room. If you'd like a deluxe family room, that's a total of $2,409.74.
